The Cumming School’s Optogenetics facility is home to the University of Calgary’s state-of-the-art photonics platform for studying the brain and nervous system in animals. 

The research groups and laboratories that adjoined the project site often operated around the clock, and their work is sensitive to noise, vibration, light and dust. To mitigate the impact of construction on surrounding building operations, the project team hosted “good neighbor” meetings to gain a complete understanding of the adjacent departments’ sensitivity to noise and vibration and discover the best ways to accommodate their requirements. Coordinating with the user group of neighboring researchers led to a success completion and another high-tech facility for the Cumming School of Medicine.
