The University of North Dakota Merrifield Hall renovation revitalized one of the campus's most iconic academic buildings. Built in 1929 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Merrifield Hall blends its historic collegiate Gothic charm with modern upgrades to meet the demands of 21st Century education.

Throughout the building, ADA-compliant upgrades complement carefully preserved architectural details like the original terrazzo flooring, intricately carved wood doors, and stone gargoyles. Tall ceilings and large windows flood the space with natural light, transforming the previously dim and uninviting areas into vibrant, welcoming spaces. Likewise, thoughtfully designed classrooms with state-of-the-art technology provide flexible and innovative spaces to support traditional lecture and collaborative teaching methods. As a shared resource for diverse departments, Merrifield Hall encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and fosters an inclusive academic community.

Overall, by blending its old school charm with modern conveniences, the revitalized Merrifield Hall will continue to represent academic excellence and provide a vibrant space on campus for generations to come. PCL completed this project in a joint venture with Community Contractors.
