Burlington, ON, April 12, 2024 PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto) was recognized for its employee fundraising efforts and community support at United Way Halton & Hamilton’s annual Evening of Celebration. At the event held on April 11, 2024, at the Burlington Convention Centre, PCL Toronto was honored with the Step Up for the Community Award in recognition of their diligent efforts and dedication in running a successful fundraising campaign in support of United Way.

The Step Up for the Community Award is presented to United Way partners who recognize how the community has needed help more than ever. As one of eight organizations to receive this award, PCL Toronto stepped up by growing funds raised, volunteering their time, supporting United Way’s events and building awareness in the community, supporting thousands of vulnerable individuals who rely on crucial programs and services funded by the United Way.

“At PCL, we are passionate about fostering positive relationships with our communities, whether this be through impactful projects or supporting charitable agencies such as the United Way,” says Monique Buckberger, vice president and district manager and 2023 United Way campaign chair for PCL Toronto. “Receiving the Step Up for Community Award is a tremendous honor, and we are deeply grateful for the efforts, passion and commitment of our employees to give back to local communities.”

In its two-week Nothing Matters More: 2023 United Way campaign, PCL Toronto raised over $331,000 through employee pledges, special events and a corporate donation. Employees rallied together for their local communities by participating in events and activities including a dodgeball tournament, paper plane challenges, wine survivor and hygiene kit pack for distribution into the local community. Participation in United Way Halton & Hamilton’s annual Plane Pull saw PCL Toronto attempt to pull a 200,000-pound plane 50 feet across the Hamilton airport tarmac.
