Toronto, Ontario (April 27, 2026) – Three projects delivered by PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto) have been named the best built in Ontario for 2026 by the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA), including the second phases of the Scotiabank Arena Venue Reimagination and Rogers Centre Renovation projects and Limberlost Place.
The Builder Awards recognize outstanding projects from across the province. A panel of judges chose between a robust slate of entries to pick exceptional projects that demonstrate innovation, outstanding safety performance and overall excellence in building. PCL accepted all three awards at the 15th OGCA Construction Symposium on April 17, 2026.
Scotiabank Arena Venue Reimagination Phase 2: Best in Group 4 – Renovation/Conversion
The original builder of Scotiabank Arena, completed in 1999 as the Air Canada Centre, PCL was selected by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) in 2021 to lead an ambitious Venue Reimagination project ahead of MLSE’s 25th anniversary. Phase one laid the groundwork for the transformation, involving the modernization of key premium spaces, fan amenities and core systems to position the facility for its next evolution. Building on that foundation, the second phase, nearly three times the scale of the first, reimagined the 100 Level Concourse with standout amenities such as the MNP Pass Social Club and a fully transformed Hot Stove Lounge, reaching completion in April 2025.
Rogers Centre Renovation Phase 2: Best in Group 5 – Renovation/Conversion
Phase two of the complex renovation began in October 2023 following conclusion of the Major League Baseball season. With focus on overhauling the 100-level infield from foul pole to foul pole by demolishing and excavating the original bowl and redesigning and rebuilding a new 100 level seating bowl designed specifically for baseball viewing, this phase also introduced world-class player facilities and premium clubs and amenities. Completed in just six months, the Toronto Blue Jays (TBJ) unveiled the reimagined 100 level seating bowl ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays’ 2024 Home Opener.
The renovations of Toronto’s premier sports and entertainment venues were delivered under complex, fast-track schedules with no margin for error – demonstrating PCL’s ability to execute large-scale, high-impact renovations within fully operational facilities while maintaining cost and schedule certainty.
Limberlost Place: Best in Group 5 – Buildings
Ontario’s first institutional building of its kind, George Brown Polytechnic’s (GBP) Limberlost Place sets the precedent for mass timber construction as a model for sustainable, green building innovation. With a goal of serving as a living lab for students, the 10-storey mass timber, net-zero educational facility integrates first-of-its-kind solutions including the cross-laminated timber (CLT) slab band structural system and North America’s largest mass timber columns spanning three storeys. Throughout the project, PCL partnered with GBP, Moriyama Teshima Architects and Ontario WoodWorks to advance education on mass timber construction by leading over 350 behind-the-scenes tours.
“This achievement reflects the breadth of experience our teams bring to every project, whether delivering a precedent‑setting new build like Limberlost Place or executing complex renovations within fully operational venues such as Scotiabank Arena and Rogers Centre,” said Geoff Howe, senior vice president and district manager, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto). “Across all sectors, we are committed to working closely with our clients and partners to bring their vision to life, while navigating unique challenges with thoughtful planning and precision. Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to Ontario General Contractors Association for this honor.”
